Grey Slender Loris Unique Species of Ayyalur Reserve Forest, Dindigul-Dt. Now Under the IUCN Red List. (17.03.19)

Grey Slender Loris is one of the rare and endangered primate mammal found in the Ayyalur Reserve Forest in Dindigul, Tamilnadu, India.  The species name is Loris lydekkerianus. Lorises are unique creatures always found in the trees of Eastern Ghats. In IUCN category it Least Concerned (LC). In tamil language, we called as Thevangu. People of Tamilnadu and some communities believed that loris have medicinal properties. But in scientifically not found any medicinal values. They confirm declined by human activities (Superstition). Very specially, loris’s blood have been applied for their ritual function. This animal nature is sluggish movement and with the hand and tongue captured some insects as food source. We need to conserve!
